Computer-aided translation tools (CAT)
Tools designed specifically to aid quality and performance
Caupenne & Co. uses state-of-the-art professional CAT tools and software to provide quality results for our clients.
_ What is Computer-aided translation (CAT)?
Computer-aided translation (CAT) is based on software developed for professionals in the translation industry, which stores your documents, in the form of ‘source’ and ‘target’ segments or phrases, in a customer-specific database. This tool is completely different to ‘Automatic Translation’ software, in that it allows our translators to work consistently, using your database and your own existing translations & technical terminology.
The software we use: SDL Trados, SDL Groupshare, Across.
_ CAT: an advantage for the customer!
• The advantage of a precise evaluation of the volume of work required. On reception of your documents, the tool identifies those segments or phrases which are identical to previously translated work, so that the project manager knows, in advance, which sections of the document require a fresh translation and which are just to be checked. This data is then used to establish costs and lead times.
• The advantages of fair costs and reduced lead times, thanks to the use of translation memories, which record your data so that expertise and terminology is carried forward from one project to another.
• The advantage of consistency throughout your documentation thanks to the use of this technology. All your work is structured and improved over time, as per your specific requirements.
